Let the sun shine in... and dry up the rot.

Reader comment on item: On New York's "Khalil Gibran International Academy"

Submitted by RobW (Saudi Arabia), Dec 10, 2008 at 16:58

Nothing like a little bit 'O fresh air and sunshine to dry out some mildew. This "school" got just what it needed - the unflinching gaze of public attention & accountability. By the way - saying inshallah is not the same as saying "God bless you" after a sneeze. It would be the equivalent of saying "Jesus loves you" - hardly a secular phrase. Although the term inshallah means "The God willing" (Allah = The God) - its overt, practical Islamic connotations renders it to the modern Christian equivalent of "Jesus loves you". Once again - the Islamic subversion of language to achieve its purposes. Just like "intifada" never means armed rebellion - just a "throwing off" of oppression. Only Debbi Almontaser would suggest approaching a modern mid-town Manhattanite woman with a habayaa and saying "put this on - and you will be liberated from your oppression". Another song & dance routine for the weak minded. Rob
