War on "Terrorism"

Reader comment on item: The Enemy Has a Name

Submitted by Donald W. Bales (United States), Jun 19, 2008 at 10:18

In war the object is to kill enough of the enemy to lead to their defeat. Many do not want to face this reality. One cannot make war on an abstraction. One can write against the ideas that lead people to carry out terrorist acts. But on the ground it comes down to people even if they are bombed from the air and fired at by artillery or by a long range sniper.

The war in Korea never ended. The war in Vietnam ended when the U.S. was defeated by the U.S. ballot box. The war with radical Islam will only be ended when it becomes sufficiently obvious that the radical Islamists cannot win and are losing. It is unlikely that terrorism by disaffected people can ever be completely stopped.

Of course, the funding with Petrodollars is what has made the war against the West by radical Islam possible. If that funding was cut off, most of the action would stop or, at least, there would be a lot less of it. The radical Islamists do not produce anything-they just destroy.
Political correctness prevents calling the enemies who they are- just as the old saying, "Calling a spade a spade" is now taboo, even if used in a way that has nothing to do with race.
