I would like to disagree

It was insightful to read a different perspective on Islam, but I would like to voice disagreement about some of the things that were commented upon in this article. As a Muslim woman myself I can comment from first-hand experience - and no, I have not been brain-washed.

I am a well-educated young woman who has achieved a bachelors degree from England, I work as a journalist (in the Middle East by the way), and whereas the society in this part of the world (and it is less to do with religion but more human beings), is not perfect, neither is society perfect in the West. The Quran never mentions a woman to be servile - the last thing that I would consider myself to be is oppressed. And I wish everybody would stop complaining about the veil - like pardon me, but what is the huge issue here?

I lived for many years in the West (indeed, my mum is English herself), and there I saw many women dressing in clothes that made them resemble nothing more than prostitutes (is it really necessary to have to wear mini skirts and boob tubes just to gain the attention of men?? well I think there must be nothing to these women in that case if that's what they feel it takes!) Most women in the Middle East wear the veil BECUASE THEY WANT TO. Only in a very few cases will women be forced to wear it.

So please people, in future, if you want to comment on something without sounding like uneducated bigots just trying to slag off a system you have no idea of, please just READ and educate yourselves of the world around you, very much as the Qur'an tells Muslims to do.
