Reader comment on item: Female Desire and Islamic Trauma

Submitted by Marco (United States), Dec 5, 2005 at 16:27

It is hard for westerners to understand Islam. For some reason they have the Idea of Islam being "Arabian Nights". Now we must take it easy here and not get confused because The Mentioned book was a book that was invented long before Islam came to Arabia.
But for centuries Europe had nurtured an anxiety-ridden perception about other people, those beyond its actual touch and reach, and about the natural world.

It is not worth wasting time explaining how the west sees the orient. Being one of the Westerners I always had the wrong idea about Islam and women. Ignorance is a disease. I believe there are too many so called "muslims" like in any OTHER religion who act badly, who don't pray, don't fast, steal, or kill. In other words, they are wrong because they dont follow the right path, yet they are believed by the Westerners to be "REAL MUSLIMS!!"

All this is a unique prespective on an adversarial world-view that has allowed the West to see other peoples as Barbarians, Infidels, even "Savages!"

This is the true story behind the Westerners look at the History. One must witness the succinct and shameful history of the racism and XENOPHOBIA that have shaped Western thought from Ancient Greece to the Present Day.

Marco D'alessandro.
