Islam, a flexible religionReader comment on item: Winston Churchill Compares "Mein Kampf" to the Koran Submitted by Infidel (Canada), Feb 23, 2008 at 22:04 Dr. Pipes: You state that "Muslims' understanding of their religion and scripture are potentially flexible". Since Muslims have not changed their belief of disagreed with any Suras' or Aya's of the Qur'an for 1,438 years, what prospects do you see that that Muslims are potentially flexible? Was there any flexiblity on Sept 11, 2001? If you see flexiblity, why are we not seeing reduction of Muslim attacks, rather than an increase? Why is there such a killing spree in Iraq, where Sunnis and Shi'ites are killing each other? Reasoned disagreement is welcome but not comments that are scurrilous, off-topic, commercial, disparaging religions, or otherwise inappropriate. For complete regulations, see the "Guidelines for Reader Comments". Daniel Pipes replies: Muslim understanding of the Koran has definitely evolved over the nearly 1,400 years since it came into existence. One sign is the huge increase in violence in the name of Islam over the past thirty years. Comment on this item
