This behaviour is quite typical of "the Left." They have contempt for democracy and the thinking abilities of ordinary people, so they are constantly tying to manipulate attitudes and events behind the scenes. Now we can see how hidden agendas are put into play.

Unfortunately, there are some very sincere people on "the Left," who allow themselves to be used by prominent "leaders" for "the greater good of the people." The Left always knows what's best for "the people" even if "the people" don't agree.
