When Yehoshua spoke in Washington DC about 3 years ago at Politics and Prose bookshop on Connecticut Avenue, he urged his mostly Jewish audience to write their congressmen to stop providing financial aid for Israel.
He said that only the US could bring "sanity" to Israeli policies by cutting off all financial aid. Not only is this a damning statement about Israeli's secular intelligentsia, but it also raises doubts about the judgment of large sections of the American secular Jewish community, which attend his talks, read his books and discuss his work in Jewish book-reading groups.
