accommodating elites

I would argue that elites are often accommodating to totalitarian ideas because they believe that they have a superior knowledge to everyone else's. Aside from the well-remembered pro-Nazi British elites in the 30's and the Mussolini makes the trains run on time people, consider the bizarre attitudes of the education and media elite in the West, which will get us all killed.
