I just happened to notice Daniel responded on my comment from long ago.
I reiterate that a purposeful, aggressive anti-patriotism was extremely common on the (intellectual and other) Left after WWI and in the late 1960s all over the West -- although I can't cite a specific example using "Rape the US" or "Rape France" or something like because I detest the Left and avoid, if possible, exposure to anything they say listening to them.
So, I think Daniel suggesting it was unique was a significant overstatement, but of course I share his shock at the words.
