Reader comment on item: Stop the NYC Madrassa

Submitted by Rick (United States), Aug 15, 2007 at 13:29

It is amazing what being "politically correct" can lead to. Who is going to monitor this school on a daily basis to insure it subscribes to principles that all publicly funded schools need to adhere to? Who will insure that prayer is not permitted or encouraged? I can imagine the uproar by Christian parents who will demand "prayer rooms" for Christian children in public schools if this madrassa has them.

Who is going to insure that there is no demonization of Israel and of Jews? Who is going to monitor the artwork produced by the students so as to insure that pictorial representations of anti-Semitism are not allowed? Who is going to insure that no religious chanting or Koranic comments are allowed? What about teaching of the Koran as a "historical" and "cultural" book? Will the Bible then be introduced in public schools as a "historical and cultural" book? What is most amazing is the lack of response to the madrassa by Arabic speaking parents. They know, more than you, that such a school will be a hindrance to their children's future and attainment of higher educational pursuits. For a Chancellor of NYC Public Schools you made a very foolish decision.
