I am glad my friend syed mohammad ali has chosen to react in the manner I had expected him to. Given the brainwashing and his upbringing, it would have been totally irrational to have expected his reaction to run along different lines. Little do these islamists realise, that a madrassa , given the functioning of those in Pakistan and India, has become a metaphor for everything sinister that is happening in our society today.

From killing innocents, to practising the most rabid form of racism and religious bigotry, from oppression of women to promoting violence and terrorism in peaceful, non-muslim neighbourhoods and, whenever possible, countries, we, the non-muslims clearly perceive the madrassas and those running it to be the root cause of every evil that has struck roots in open, democratic countries, be they of the West, the U.S.A., India, or a distant country like Australia.

Furthermore, it does not serve the islamists' cause any further by remaining silent on the issue of the pernicious role of these madrassas in the propagation of jihad, and terrorism. Instead of joining forces with those opposing all forms of violence and gender discrimination, they, at best, pretend to remain neutral in the fight, and, at worst, to align themselves with those hell bent on supplanting the tolerance and respect for life in our societies with the fanaticism and intolerance of Arabia, circa, 632 A.D.

Mr.syed is welcome to drive away every missionary and close down every school from morocco and indonesia if he can. He must, nevertheless, be prepared for the reaction that such actions are likely to cause . Finally, while agreeing with Dr.Pipes statement that the U.S.A. needs more and more Arabic speakers, I humbly feel that allowing the indiscrimnate use of madrassas, while promoting a small good in the short run, is likely to create a sinister Frankenstein monster in the long run, whom no one would be able to tame.
