in islam, you must differentiate between marriage and what they call 'right hand possession' . for marriage, you can marry up to 4 women at any given time.. of course you can divorce them all and marry another 4 etc.. this is as regards the marriage.. but when it comes to 'right hand possession', it means any number under your hand .. this is the unlimited number you were referring to .
