Neo-conservatism

Reader comment on item: In 1796, U.S. Vowed Friendliness With Islam

Submitted by Octavio Johanson (Italy), Nov 16, 2006 at 05:13

Back in 1796, the USA was on friendly terms with Muslim nations. Nowadays, American neo-conservatism wants to export democracy to the Middle East. Only history will tell if neo-conservatives were right or wrong. Neo-conservatism is a very complex ideology, which I don't fully understand. I respect it, but I don't understand it.

An interventionist foreign policy goes hand in hand with open borders and free-trade agreements. Last year, a Port Deal with a company from the United Arab Emirates was rejected by the American congress. This proves that the war on terror does not always go hand in hand with free-trade and other issues.
