Of course they were. There were no oilfields and the opportunity for potential handouts is one that no self-respecting Muslim could ever fail to pass up! Funny how modern day Muslims seem to look back on the days of the Ottomans with nostalgia!!! They've never forgiven the West for bringing down the Turkish rulers that they were too impotent to remove themselves!
