in response to reader comment: Difference between Christians and Muslims

Submitted by Whildcat (Germany), Sep 17, 2006 at 01:44

I often read these type of comments about who people see Islam, compare differences, and place our religion on a shelf of disgust. I am a muslim and come from a muslim family. Never in my life have I been disgusted with some Christians and some Muslims because religion is not a sport. Some muslims make Islam look horrible I will be the first to admit that and am not ashamed of saying and there are many "so called" Christians whom make their religion look horrible also.. Islam is a religion of peace, not slamming airplanes into buildings, or killing innocent people just as Christianity, Hindu etc.

I have been to a Christian church, kneeled, prayed with many Christians and you know what, I never once in my time did I condemn Christians for the belief that God has a son, nor have I verbally approached a nun and condemned her for her attire. Unfortunately Americans have the "belief" that Islam is as it has been portrayed and after 9/11 many innocent muslims along with EVERY RACE AND RELIGION suffered because believe it or not there were muslims in those buildings also not just non-muslims that suffered. Innocent muslim by-standers got attacked for what happened and paid their price - that is totally unfair and wrong!!!

As for our pilgrimage to Mecca its our religion and you cannot place your lack of knowledge and practice on what you have not experienced. .We are all ignorant with that being said, what is the difference between a muslim woman who covers her hair and a Christian nun whom covers herself with her veil? I have experienced a lot of ignorant people who just look at the media and what the fanatical muslims are doing instead of reading and increasing their knowledge about ANY religion...so you know what who gives a hoot about what the ignorant are doing, just keep treating others with respect and see past the veil of Islam when you see a muslim woman walking because under all her clothing is a human being whom has needs and deserves respect like anyone else.
