Islam not only religion encouraging killing

Reader comment on item: CAIR's Assault on Paul Harvey

Submitted by Charles R.L. Power (United States), Jan 2, 2004 at 15:30

I don't consider myself particularly friendly to Islam. I have, in particular, a low opinion of its prophet and of its scripture.

But I fail to see why I should defend remarks by Paul Harvey which, while defensible as factual, single out Islam as bloodthirsty, ignoring the fact that the same could well be said about the other religions of the Book, Judaism and Christianity. The God of the Torah demanded wars of extermination, and if these weren't carried out, this was seen as a fault of his worshipers. And need anything be said about the thirst Christians have demonstrated through the ages for the blood of each other over incomprehensible doctrinal differences?

Yet would Jews and Christians not be offended if a Muslim were to call these religions to account for encouraging killing? Of course they would, the facts be what they may. Harvey needed a lesson in tact, and he got it.
