Reader comment on item: CAIR's Assault on Paul Harvey

Submitted by john mcginley (United States), Dec 27, 2003 at 13:35

Mr Pipes: I am no defender of CAIR. It is dangerous organization precisely because it has been so persuasive in getting people to think that an attack on "Islamist" terroristic ideology is, eo ipso, an attack against Islam. Even so, Mr Harvey should have been more careful by making the same distinction in his remarks, which he failed to do. The demand, even considering its source, for an on the air apology was justified and, in this case, CAIR's pressure put on Harvey's sponsors stands in a long tradition of American protest including the Christian Right which, as you know, has been very supportive of Israel. However, given mr Harvey's on the air apology, GE would be mistaken to withdraw its sponsorship of mr. Harvey's program.
