The incident you have referred to only re-inforces that laws given in Quran are for the benefit of mankind and not just muslims. Think about it.

The Quran says that do not go near the prayer if you don't know what you are saying (under the influence of intoxicants). When these clerics issued fatwa they ignored this Quranic law and applied the divorce law in isolation. This says a lot about their competence to issue such fatwas. If you are not allowed to even pray when you are drunk then definitely you are not allowed to take a decision on such a serious matter as divorce.

If the indian civil court ruled that the divorce doesn't take effect in these circumstances, they have acted according to laws given in the Quran.

That's why alcohol is banned by Quran. Its use leads to ugly situations!
