Islam does not need truth, it is truth

Reader comment on item: Is Allah God?
in response to reader comment: Muslim leaders always preferred the violent verses

Submitted by Abdul Rahman Reijerink (Australia), May 28, 2006 at 10:38

Islam is not in need of reformation (contrary to a comment I have listed elsewhere, this is a matter of semantics though, my message is the same), its Interpretation is in need of reformation. Islam, coming from God as it does, is truth as God is the only and absolute truth.

When you say that Islam authorises the use of violence, I dispute your unlimited use of this interpretation. The Qur'an says quite clearly...

"...therefore if they withdraw from you but fight you not, and (instead) send you (garauntees of) peace, then Allah hath opened no way for you (to make war against them)" 4:90 coupled with many other verses that make simliar points strcitly limiting how fighting may be conducted.

Furthermore we are not bound by historical precedent, these people of previous ages are not Allah, they are fallible human beings. If we follow their actions in wrong things, who do we worship then... them or Allah?

I say that the evidence of Peace and co-operation from the sacred texts outweighs everything else. Open yours eyes, the practise of Islam is being reformed, and not just by ignoring the word of God as so many suggest (like cardinal Pell here in Australia), but by seeing that the interpretations laid down centuries ago are not actually the words of Allah swt. What is happening is tthe liberation of the text from its interpretation, and combating the ideology that the Shariah is fixed and that the interpretations of about six men about one thousand years ago are definitive for all times. That ideology just plays into the hands of ahistorical insanity.

yours in brotherhood,

may Allah accept all our good deeds and overlook our evil deeds, may we be guided into the Light and out of darkness.
