All our weakness due to our egregious Prime Minister.

Reader comment on item: Weak Brits, Tough French

Submitted by Geoffrey Lewis (United States), Jul 13, 2005 at 06:18

Two days before USA and UK invaded Iraq, I saw an old friend, a former British Ambassador to Saudi Arabia. His Arabic is as good as his English, and he knows the Middle East inside out. He said to me, "Mr Blair has access to all the Middle East experts, like you and me. Why the hell doesn't he listen to them?" We agreed that the reason is Mr Blair's having his personal ME expert, Mr Bush. As for his failure to get rid of the evil old men who recruit and train suicide-bombers despite Islam's forbidding suicide, the only reason I can think of is that he wants the votes of our large Muslim communities. He presumably imagines that those evil old men are typical of them. He is no ordinary liar; he truly believes that once he has said something it is gospel.
