A plague on both their houses

Reader comment on item: Is Allah God?

Submitted by Java, Los Angeles (United States), Jul 7, 2005 at 18:59

I am glad to write, "Thank god I'm an atheist." However, I was born a Moslem whose native language was not Arabic. We always talked about God in our own language and not talk about Allah, which is the Arabic word for God. In the version of Islam that I was taught God was beyond all concrit description such as name, gender, place. God did have abstract characteristics such as being just, merciful, compassionate, loving, source of all good. The concept of God that I was taught was wonderful but when I grew up I gave up such concepts the same way most adults give up the idea of Santa Clause no matter how great it would be if Santa did exist.

But for all these people to discuss whether the monotheistic god of Islam is the same as their version of monotheism is saying, "My superstition is superior to yours." OK keep your Santa! Just don't murder people in the name of your Santa (even if you call it 'collateral damage it's still murder and even if you call it martyrdom it's still murder).
