I would leave the KKK out of it

The KKK was indeed an evil movement and preached hatred against blacks, Jews and Catholics.

However, the KKK was a local movement and it only made headway in the Deep South of the USA.

Islamism or Militant Islam cannot be compared to the KKK. Indeed, the Protestant religion and the faith in Jesus Christ were always peripheral to the KKK's racist ideology.

Now, Islamists are much closer to mainstream Islam than the KKK was to Christianity.

You cannot really make that comparison.
