Israeli Support for Gazans

Reader comment on item: Lessons of the War in Gaza

Submitted by Danny Saks (United States), Aug 10, 2014 at 12:48

"Blockade" is the main issue now facing Israel in Gaza. This so-called blockade needs a more nuanced response from Israel, whose border actions put pressure on Hamas but actually enable life to go on in Gaza. Perhaps we should use a new word or idiom instead of blockade, like "border control," a concept that resonates with Americans and increasingly worries Europeans in dealing with Islamic extremists. Israel does not blockade Gaza but rather needs to control its borders.
