Reader comment on item: An Israeli Apology to Turkey
in response to reader comment: What about Armenian Genocide?

Submitted by Kachkarian (United States), Mar 27, 2013 at 17:44

It is baffling that a civilized country should be pressured into apologizing to one where barbarism such as honor killing and the persecution of Christians and minorities is still rife. My sense has always been that the IDF slightly overreacted in confronting the flotilla, and that either the Israeli commandos should have been ordered to board the Mavi Marmara when it was closer to the blockade borderline, or some other means should have been found to stop the ship, such as jamming or blocking the propeller.

Still, the jihadis leading the flotilla were/are savages and this was a provocative act. At the very least, Obama should have pressured the Turks to condemn the attempt to break the blockade, which is perfectly legal under international law. The hubris coming out of Ankara has reached a fever pitch and it's time for it to stop.

It's also time for Ankara to fess up the the Armenian Genocide, and for the Israeli parliament to pass a resolution acknowledging the near-century-old atrocity.
