Apologizing more of a Netanyahu thing than to do with the flotilla

Reader comment on item: An Israeli Apology to Turkey

Submitted by Shishir (United States), Mar 25, 2013 at 04:41

Forgot to mention- Binyamin Netanyahu has apologized before for a botched Mossad hit on a senior Hamas operative in Jordan while he was paying an official visit to King Hussain in Amman! This was in 1996 I believe. The Israeli government was compelled to treat the Hamas guy, I think it was Khaled Meshal, in their hospital and provide him with the best of care.

That was a far greater humiliation that the flotilla and its apology aftermath.

Netanyahu is the only Israeli PM to have a spent a good part of his life in U.S where the culture of apologies and placating your enemies runs rampant.

Obama being no stranger to apologizing for his country probably seized on this synergy. Who knows that could be a basis of a future friendship!
