Don't be so pessimistic

Reader comment on item: An Israeli Apology to Turkey

Submitted by john w mcginley (United States), Mar 25, 2013 at 09:35

Mr. Pipes. Don't be so pessimistic. I am embarrassed to have to admit that the President of my country is Obama. But the President did a favor for Israel in brokering this "apology." The operative word in the "apology" is -- and properly --"regret" along with owning up that there were operational glitches in the Israeli undertaking. (("regret" is not fully congruent with "apology.")) It may or may not bring Turkey and Israel to be in synch with each other. Israel needs support in that area. Netanyahu did in no way waive Israel's right to blockade arms shipments to Gaza. Plus by going along with Obama Netanyahu gives something to that narcissist to bring back something positive from his trip. Most of what Obama did over their was grandstanding.

The reports are that America and Israel are on the same page with regard to the Iranian threat. I sure as heck ((are we allowed to say "hell" in these postings?)) hope so. But Israel must remain committed to its unilateral right to take action if -- as I think this will turn out -- Obama "caves."
