The "fetid, dark heart"?

Reader comment on item: Count Palestine Refugees?

Submitted by Mellvin A. Fechter (United States), Jun 9, 2012 at 12:52

You needn't concern yourself too much, Daniel, with "the fetid, dark heart of the Arab war on Israel." There will be no peace. What, however, you have pointed out, correctly, is that it is not merely an Israel/Palestinian war; it is a war of Israel with the entire Arab world. There have been tentative -- and tenuous -- peace accords with segments of the Arab world but even those will forever, at best, remain tenuous.

And that doesn't even mention Iran. But, curiously, however dangerous and threatening is Iran, I have greater hopes for Iran than I do for the Arab world. Reason? I do not think Ahmadinejad, or Khameini, or even Islam, is truly representative of the people of Iran. I think their hearts remain with ancient Persia.
