Reader comment on item: The System "Worked Really Very, Very Smoothly" in Detroit?

Submitted by Rebecca Moulds (United States), Dec 28, 2009 at 13:33

Just when you thought it was safe to fly again, another brainwashed would-be terrorist nearly blows it for all of us innocent and upright citizens of the normal un-brainwashed-into-Islam world. I say "nearly" but in reality, this one incident has not only brought to light the fact that we are not safe, that we cannot protect ourselves, but also has made a mockery of all the rules and regulations that the TSA has initiated since 9/11/01 (i.e. quart-size bag with only 3oz. liquids, etc.). New Age Security Solutions President Rafi Ron was recently on a cable television station, and implied that security measures at Ben Gurion in Tel Aviv would have prevented such an incident as the one from Schiphol to Detroit. Perhaps the TSA should take some ideas from the real experts in security; restricting passengers to only one carry-on is another silly regulation that will not prevent terrorism, nor will forcing passengers to sit in their seats the last hour of flight without anything on their laps, give assurance of no terrorist activity aboard a flight. People with known ties to Al-qaeda and other terrorist organizations should never be allowed to fly anywhere, and it's obvious that the slackness of authorities to recognize Abdulmatallab as a security threat was a huge gaff and could have caused the death of hundreds of people. Are there any real solutions? Will we always be the prey of these lunatics who want to destroy civilization? We may never feel 100% safe flying, but at least we can try to find some intelligent solutions.
