Why no sniffer dogs at the gates?

It's beyond ridiculous that, eight years after 9/11, there is not either sniffer technology or use of sniffer animals to detect potential explosives carried by passengers. Muslims are said to be averse to dogs. So? We should respect their right to decline to fly to the U.S.
