Reader comment on item: The System "Worked Really Very, Very Smoothly" in Detroit?

Dr Pipes

I just do not get it. Why would the State Department issue a visa to a 23 year old single Muslim man from Nigeria (His name is Farouk Abdelmutalib) who is supposed to be attending a religious seminar in Detroit! There are so many red flags here already. OK so we try to please Muslims then why give him a valid visa until June? Why not give him a visa that is only valid for the few days of the so called seminar?

But that is not all: He is supposed to be on a watch/no fly list. The questions now would be:

1. How did he get a visa in Lagos? And how come the State Department does not seem to be aware of that he is on a watch/no fly list? And on what basis did the consular officer in Lagos issue such visa?and how come no one seem to have known in the consulate in Lagos that this man is connected to al-Qa3ida

2. And how was he able to purchase a ticket when his name is on a watch/no fly list?

3. And what is that religious seminar that he was supposed to attend? We need to know more about

3. How was he able to get the chemicals on board of a plane and not just in Lagos but also in Amsterdam

This is just amazing
