Reader comment on item: Is Allah God?
in response to reader comment: Surah

Submitted by Robert Roberg (United States), Feb 9, 2008 at 10:33

Can you recommend an English translation of the Koran?

Surely if Allah (the creator) meant for his message to go out to the whole world he wouldn't begin it in a language which could not be properly translated into all languages would he?

By saying you believe in Jesus means very little. You must define your Jesus.

Did he die on the cross?
Did he rise from the dead?
Did he renounce violence and warfare and teach us to be non-violent lovers of our enemies?
Did he end all sacrifices (including camel sacrifices)?
Did he end all building projects (including mosques)?
Did he end all taxation?
Did he end capital punishment?
Did he tell you if someone steals your coat give him your cloak, or cut off his hand?
Did he make women equal to men, or inferior?
Did he come to free the salves or establish slavery?
Did he show mercy to the woman caught in adultery, or bury her in the sand and cut off her head?
Did he condemn all human hierarchies as the work of Satan or seek to establish theocratic governments?
Does he stand on the globe of the earth with a sword in his hand?
Does he say lovers or warriors will go to heaven?
Does he promise riches in this world or persecution and poverty?
Does he demand you bow five times a day in public or does he tell you to pray in the privacy of your closet?
Does he allow divorce or forbid it?
Does he recommend multiple wives or call his followers to be eunuchs?
Does he teach us to make a pilgrimage to a black rock, or are we to avoid all outward forms of religion?
Does he teach one mountain is holier than another?
Did he preach justice or mercy?

Tell me about your Jesus (perhaps you are not following the Jesus of the Gospels but another Jesus).

Peace
