A solution

Reader comment on item: Zionism's Bleak Present

I have a solution to the problem. All Arab countries because of their Muslim religion must believe in the recovery of land once controlled by Islam. Even the "moderates" hold this goal. Yet beyond Kosovo there is little discussion on the recovery of areas of Europe once dominated by the Muslims. I doubt the Muslims would have come to the aid of Kosovo absent the active efforts of European powers and the US. All of the rest of Muslim Europe is settled sovereignty. Israel is unsettled because it was a creation of the UN.

I believe we can settle the sovereignty of Israel by establishing a mutual treaty of protection between Israel and the US. This would include the establishment of permanent military bases for land. sea and air. I do not personally believe that the "Palestinians" will ever offer true peace to Israel for any concession. However, a mutual defense pact between the US and Israel and the establishment of a substantial military presence in Israel by the US military will render the permanence of the Jewish state a fait accompli that all will have to accept. The US needs a reliable base for its forces given the shifting interests of Germany, Turkey et al.
