Reader comment on item: Zionism's Bleak Present

Submitted by Atilla (Australia), Oct 11, 2007 at 05:37

After reading your post, I am alarmed. I never realised the amount of unpopularity that Zionism was facing from Jews. Sure I knew about the Haredim but this statistic of only 17% of American Jews not calling themselves Zionist shocked me. However I think you are a bit too optimistic with this line "...as Westerners generally and Israelis specifically finally awake to the dangers posed by Palestinian irredentists, jihadists, and other extremist Middle Easterners." Most of the world still shrugs off the threat of Iran and Syria as well as groups like Hezbollah and the Taliban. Even after decades of terrorist attacks, too many people think groups such as Hamas are 'freedom fighters'.
