Congratulations, Mr. Pipes, on your appointment. I see it as another instance of clear-thinking in the midst of dangerous global realities on the part of President Bush, who seems to have seen a kindred clear-thinker in you. Your appointment is a step in the right direction for clear-thought on a particularly muddled subject. It is to be celebrated by all those who think critically and not just politically about the status of relations between the West and Islam.
