Your generosity to those who loath you

Reader comment on item: On Being Borked

Submitted by Kenneth Besig (Israel), Aug 26, 2003 at 07:42

You are entitled to relate to those who would have destroyed you in any manner you wish, even generously, if that finds favor in your eyes. Indeed, since you won the appointment to the United States Institute of Peace in any event, that victory should be sweet enough to make those who despise you twist in pain.

Your battle against terrorist fundamentalist Islam is what put your nomination in jeopardy. (And I hope it was the real reason your nomination was put forward). Your unwillingness to toe the line of Islam-as- perpetual-victim of American and Israeli provocation and aggression is tantamount, in the eyes of these Islamist groups, to denying the Koran. And that is exactly how they presented their case against you. And unfortunately there are certain ultra liberal American Senators who remain willing to promote the deliberate, conscious, and monstrous lies of these extremist Islamic pressure groups in order to inflict the maximum amount of damage on President George Bush.(I assume they would have treated the regrettable damage to you as some sort of collateral issue.)

The same thing is being done to us here in Israel, only on a far higher order of magnitude. In your case, these Islamist groups tried to destroy you professionally and politically; in our case, they are doing their best to destroy us physically in the truest sense of the word.

The attempt to discredit and destroy you wasn't done innocently or naively or because of anything objectionable you wrote or said. It was done with as much deliberate malice as is humanly possible, and had this attack on you succeeded, you would never have heard the end of it. Every time you appeared anywhere, it would be prominently mentioned how the Islamists had foiled your appointment to the USIP.

All the best,
