To Maura: What are "eejits?"

Maura: Loved your post, which was well written and quite reasonable.

I love the sound of "eejits," but couldn't find it in my dictionaries. Is it a real word or a delectable creation of yours? Which ever, "eejits" has a fabulous ring to it. Where does it come from and what does it mean? mariana
