GREG GS: What you say is all true, but does that mean DO NOTHING?

You said you doubted [the proposed "grilling"] "...will cull enough undesirables to make the desired difference in immigration...." While it might not "...make the desired difference...," it seems to me that ANY difference at all would be a positive improvement. It will not make THE DIFFERENCE, but it might help to make SOME improvement. Something must be done and we must begin somewhere. Even practiced liars often demonstrate mannerisms ["tells"] which are clues that deception is afoot.

The point is that we do not require anything from those entering the country, and those "visitors" who entered legally initially [with an a priori intent to overstay], are all aware that if they do not go home when their visas expire, they have a 95% chance of not being found out. Further, that if they are found out, very few will actually be deported; and even those ultimately deported, can stay here for years and years with Appeals. The thing that amazes me is the "all or none" liberal mentality which eschews any suggested attempt to remediate [ONLY] where "security" issues are involved [because "it will turn us into them., etc"].

At the same time, they're not so inhibited when involving themselves into directing our private lives, feeling free to box-in American Citizens, and compelling us to submit to whatever "behavioral adjustments" liberals in their superior wisdom, deem "good for us:" Trans-fats are out; high taxes for "the rich" or the hated "corporations" are in; smoking is out; "hate speech" [involving only certain classes, of course] is out; higher taxes and job losses [ONLY for Americans] to pay for "global warming" are in; redirecting our Intelligence services from Jihadis to writing crap reports on "security effects of "Gl. Warming" is in; forcing all Americans into a government health care system is in; etc., etc., ad infinitum!

Reordering the natural forces of the universe by "consensus" of the ignorant is IN! Those who take these positions seem to not understand, that our NOT re-evaluating and augmenting our behaviours and responses to these Jihadis, already has them on a winning course. They've studied our laws and weaknesses very well and know just where and how to strike. And they know they can count on the Left to hamstring us, clearing the way to their ensured victory. mariana
