Immigration during war timeReader comment on item: Jihad in Jersey Submitted by Linda Korrow (United States), May 9, 2007 at 21:50 ". . . immigrants seeking refuge in the West must be grilled for their attitudes toward our civilization, our religion, and politics." -- Daniel Pipes This is an excellent, practical appproach to two immigration problems -- unrealistic expectations of immigrants and infiltration by the "bad guys" as part of their jihad and global caliphate initiatives. However, I wonder if immigration should be stopped during time of war? An often unrealized issue is exemplified by problems in Europe, where jihad is initiated by second generation immigrants who grew up in their host country with all the benefits thereof, but sympathize with jihadists, or simply wish to abide by the requirements of their religion as expressed in their holy works, or simply jump on the bandwagon at their mosques or schools. Seems like it is better to be safe than sorry, does it not? I fear we are at the beginning of a long road that is being made all the more treacherous due to immigration. Daniel Pipes replies: It's not feasible to stop all immigration to the United States, but it can and should be drastically reduced, in part to absorb the tens of millions of arrivals over the past four decades, in part to watch more carefully who of the enemy forces tries to enter the country.
