mohammed certainly not a prophet of God

Reader comment on item: Is Allah God?

Submitted by rw (Australia), Oct 12, 2006 at 04:42

The defining element of the moslem concept of "Allah" is that Mohammed is his prophet. This "allah" figure is most certainly therefore entirely unrelated to the God of the Jews and the Christians. Mohammed fails to meet the criteria of a prophet on every possible count if one takes the bible as one's source.

There is considerable debate in the Christian world as to whether, in speaking to moslems, one should refer to "God" as "Allah". Some say yes, some say no; in my view the best authorities say no, and the decisive reason is that just stated -the idea of allah cannot be seperated from mohammed.

The etymology of "allah" seems to be rather difficult; it seems close to the Hebraic root El, and yet does seem to be associated in Arabia with a moon god.

Dr Pipes' argument about 'children of Abraham' is similarly contentious. In fact any direct physical connection between the Arabs and Abraham is questionable to the point of being specious. In terms of 'faith' it is non-existent, since the faith of Abraham is clearly the faith of Israel and the importance of Abraham's son Isaac and his son Jacob (Israel) is repudiated by islam.

It needs to be understood that Islam flatly and explicitly contradicts both Judaism and Christianity on every point of importance, and at 10,000 other points besides.
