The Koran and Alcohol

Reader comment on item: More on Those Alcohol-shy Taxi Drivers

Submitted by Safraz (United States), Oct 12, 2006 at 00:46

Seems like someone should inform these cabbies that the Koran actually does not prohibit alcohol (as it does pork), but simply advises against drinking it because its corrupting force is greater than its benefits. In fact alcohol (wine), according to the Koran, flows in the streams of Heaven.

And yes, I am a Muslim. A Muslim who is quite astonished that the right wing masses in America, and thankfully not their leadership, has essentially abandoned the moderate Muslims of the world - a group that would have and maybe still will be their strongest allies in the fight against the radical Islamists movements.

Just remember, Bin Laden would kill me just as quickly as he would any one of you because in his eyes, as a Muslim that does not buy into his sometimes unimaginable distortions of the religion of peace I grew up with, I am an infidel worse than any of you.
