Confused of islam

I'm confused as to why muslims feel that their religion is a religion of peace and support muslims around the world regardless of how far their belief systems are from the west. All I hear is Fatwa, Jihad, infidel, apostate, holywar, beheadings, stonings, suppression of women (Saudi women can't drive, Taliban women are not allowed to go to school...etc.).

If muslims really feel this affinity with other muslims like the taliban and laws which suppress individual freedoms, why the heck do they live in the west and Europe. ...?
