Maybe there are "moderate" Muslims but...Reader comment on item: Identifying Moderate Muslims Submitted by Greg G. (United States), Dec 20, 2004 at 15:02 Maybe there are "moderate" Muslims but their numbers appear to be few--certainly quite silent and no visible reason to believe that they will be of any value in this fight. We should not waste our time waiting for them to identify themselves. My personal opinion is that they will be "moderate" or "Islamist" depending on which way the wind is blowing at the moment. Maybe we should define for ourselves what is a "moderate" Muslim--anything less than our own definition would then be assumed to be Islamist. At least we would have something to work with--a starting point.I view western civilization in a fight for its very survival. As a matter of survival, under the circumstances, assuming a Muslim is an Islamist is not an irrational course. It seems silly to be trying to identify our enemy when it is common knowledge that the thread holding our enemy together is Islam. Who among us believes that an Islamist will only threaten to use a nuclear weapon? Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
