Upholding a Sensible Approach

Daniel Pipes' article on why the United States should not endorse the Olmert/Kadima unilateral withdrawal from much of Shomron and Judea needs to be given close consideration on the part of the Bush Administration and the Congress. It simply spells "disaster" with respects to US, Israeli, and Jordanian strategies and interests. There is a sensible approach, and that is to maintain a full presence in the West Bank and to refuse to cowtow to US or any other demands to move Jewish settlers and therefore vacate important areas. International politics and economics, aside. Israel, to save herself, needs to stay fortified.

It leads to the question of what Israel's priorities should be, which includes a full evaluation of the ramifications of disengagement from Gaza. It's truly a reality test; and we can only hope that sense and sensibility will prevail.
