Compared to Iraq, Gaza is going GREAT!Reader comment on item: Mr. Olmert Visits Washington Submitted by Steve (United States), May 16, 2006 at 13:37 In truth, I can't see how the Bush administration would see Gaza as you suggest. There is the contrarian view that the Gaza pull out has provided the polarization necessary to get Israel out of the dog house of world opinion. Nobody likes an occupier unless it is Russia, China, France (let's not forget German territory it picked up in the last century), etc. Israel will always have to live with that double standard. Now the world sees Palestine as "not ready for democracy" and will see how that if many middle eastern countries with a free election they would turn Islamic Fascist (like the Hamas election success in Palestine, certainly Pakistan would, maybe Egypt, etc.), the West will need to figure out a new program. Israel is not in the position to provide leadership in this area despite all the lessons it has learned the hard way.
