Harrak and the study of American decline

Reader comment on item: White House Nonchalance [toward the Middle East]
in response to reader comment: America's last last 20 and DR Johansen Jorgen

Submitted by Richard Lion heart (United States), Mar 23, 2006 at 12:52

After I read your comments about the supposed coming of American decline, and after I visited the web site you provided, I concluded that your analysis and that of Johansen is based on pure wishful thinking. In his interview he was only saying things that his audience wanted to hear, not solid facts.

Jorgen Johansen belongs to a peace group that believes in peaceful resolution of conflicts. Although it's a lofty cause, these peaceniks are completely deluded when it comes to islamofacism. I would not be surprised if many of them are al-quaeda sympathizers. Johansen's analysis is not backed up by facts. There are clear indicative signs when a country is in decline. The former Soviet Union exibited all of these signs before it collapsed.

1. In its drive to keep up with American military spending, the USSR spent money it did not have therefore bankrupting themselves.

2. The USSR was a totalitarian state imprisoning and torturing its citizens, therefore making them more than willing to help anyone seeking the fall of the regime.

3. For a communist country, the USSR was rife with corruption. Therefore wasting money the state did not even have.

4.The USSR was a closed communist country with no private enterprise and free market economy. Therefore foreign investments were few and far between which contributed to the slow suffocation of their economy over a few decades.

These are only a few reasons that contributed to the fall of the USSR, and the U.S does not exibit any of these ills. In his analysis, Johansen provided no catalyst that would cause the suppose American fall. All I saw was a mad peacenik hoping the U.S will suffer more attacks from jihadist. This behavior is not uncommon among islamofacist sympathyzers. They claim to love peace, but only peace at the cost of defeat.

Harrak if you look carefully you will see that the Chinese adopted a free market economy in their country so they would not suffer the fate of the Soviets.

The American economy is the largest in the world, and it keeps growing. Unemployment is at its lowest (4%), and foriegn investments keeps growing. With the growth of new fussel fuel, the dependance on foreign oil will gradually decline. You believe terrorist attaks can weaken the U.S, but just like 9/11 they will only strenghten our resolve to defeat islamofacism.

You said you would like to see these al-quaeda sympathyzers in charge, I'm sure you would. But you see, not even in countries like Canada and Sweden would you see that let alone the U.S. I cannot stop you from wishing the fall of the U.S, but at least try to come with some rational argument for your wishful thinking.
