in response to reader comment: Nuray and Maria ..I can see now why Islam is in such a state

on mother teresa and christ:
the sinless miriam and the sinless son of miriam for us are the very symbols of purity - why should'nt she use his name to comfort someone in pain - and looking from the christian perspective, christ is god in flesh and in that case its even more relevant - i don't understand your point - one should try to look at things from other people's perspective also - you may not understand or agree with the concept of holy trinity but the simple fact of the matter is that we are muslims because we were born muslims - its as simple as that and there is nothing special about it - we could easily have been born into a jewish, christian home or in my case a hindu or sikh home - and that would have been our religion.

nelson mandela:
not an expert on south african politics/history, but i think he has already earned a place in history by spearheading the fight against apartheid - i am sure there will be black athletes representing s. africa in future olympics.

bible:
i have read the old and new testaments and parts of talmud - in the end they are all trying to accomplish one thing - help us become better human beings - i don't see why one should try to find ridiculous things in other revealed scriptures - face it - abraham/ibrahim was a jew - ishaq was a jew - ismai'l was a jew - musa was a jew - yaqub was a jew - noah was a jew - david was a jew - christ was a jew - when we offer the prayers, in every other rika'h we recite the darood sharif and ask god to bless ibrahim and al-i-ibrahim (children of ibrahim, i.e., the jews) - once i almost got beaten up for saying this - the individual with whom i was having the discussion was insistent that all prophets were muslims - this type of ignorance (mostly a direct result of saudi obscenity shoved down on others courtesy of petro-dollars) breeds hatred and violence - one should strive to overcome it.

one disturbing difference between muslims and people of other religions, however, is that a vast majority of muslims consider the shariah (law derived from the qur'an) to be immutable - the perfect law for all eternity - let me assure you that disturbing things will occur when people try to find absolutes in something as abstract as religion.

while the others sorted out these differences a couple of hundred years back, we are still debating whether its a good idea to have a reformation or not! its depressing to say the least - instead of focussing on issues like economics, education, democracy, the ummah is more interested in showing its impotent anger on the streets over a bunch of cartoons.

europe/west:
europe and the west in general have paid a very high price to get where they are today - in just the last century they fought two world wars in which millions of innocent people died including six million jews who were murdered for no reason - in the process they have tried to learn from their mistakes and have been making enormous efforts to overcome prejudice based on religion and ethnicity - is there no discrimination in europe? even the europeans dont claim that - at least they are trying their best - the muslims who have immigrated to these countries should also learn that they need to assimilate and respect the culture of their new homeland - after all, no one is forcing them to live in denmark or france - and besides the discrimination found in the western countries pales in comparison with that in the msulim world - imagine a danish woman saying that i am not going to cover my head in saudi arabia because i find it distasteful or i really need to read the bible - do you know that you cannot practise any religion except islam in saudi arabia even in the privacy of your own home!
