Short-lived? Perhaps. Dangerous? Certainly!

Reader comment on item: Ariel Sharon, Escapist

Submitted by Josh G (Israel), Nov 30, 2005 at 08:49

Prof. Pipes:

Perhaps history will validate your prediction that "Sharon's Kadima Party will (1) fall about as abruptly as it has arisen ...". Even so, he and his co-leaders of Kadima (esp. Peres) can cause a lot of damage to the State of Israel, as they have already done, before the fall. Yet another possibility is that he will abandon Kadima when he sees fit, to start yet another party with the populist du jour. Unfortunately, the same electorate that did not challenge Sharon very vociferously over Gaza is unlikely to dethrone him now, whatever party banner he stands under.
