Israel acted in self-defense in 1967Reader comment on item: Defending and Advancing Freedom Submitted by Ken Gold (United States), Nov 2, 2005 at 14:59 Dr. Pipes wrote: "That three Arab states tightened a noose around Israel in 1967 did not prove they intended to attack it." This is a rare case in which I disagree with Dr. Pipes. Israel's actions in June 1967 are not relevant to a discussion about preemption. International legal scholars agree that Egypt's blockade of the port of Eilat was a casus belli, an act of war - even the Third World dominated UN agreed - and thus Israel's action in attacking Egypt was permissible self-defense in response to an attack, not preemption.Ken Gold West Bloomfield, Michigan Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
