That is a clear demand from the muslim god to reconquer territories that previously have been dominated of muslims. That is why muslims never is admitted to make an everlasting peace with the Jewish state.

Well this verse is about what Muslims should do to unbelievers! More later

However, al-Mufasereen the likes of Ibn Kathir regard what is called Ayat al-Sayf (the sword verse) or Q9:5 as a fundamental part of Islam where non Muslims (al-Mushrikeen or polytheists and al-kuffar or unbelievers) are told: Islam Taslam or convert to Islam or be killed by the sword.

So who are really those kuffar and mushrikeen? If you read Q9:29 and Q9:30 in addition to Q9:5 it becomes clear that the kuffar/mushrikeen in the Qur'an must be not only Meccan pagans but also Jews and Christians and the rest of humanity

Why is Surat al-Tauba or Quran chapter 9 important? Because it is supposed to be the last Sura revealed to Muhammad by his so called Allah and because of the Islamic doctrine of abrogation (later revelations abrogate earlier revelations in the same subject matter) Therefore, Allah's final words are the likes of these vile verses the likes of Ayat al-Sayf!

Now do you get it?

However, this has nothing to do with your original claim that it is about Muslims seizing land that they lost to non Muslims. I suspect that the likes of the Hadith that I quoted is anachronistic after all Muhammad was interested in capturing two small towns (Mecca and Medina) which were located in the middle of no where

But again the Islamic Historical Tradition is the biggest literary fraud in the history of humanity
