Reader comment on item: Why Palestinians Need an Israel Victory

Submitted by Daniel Rubio (United States), Mar 26, 2018 at 08:20

The author's article is tremendously wrong. Dr. Pipes seeks a complete defeat of the Palestinians in order to sit down and negotiate a victory for them. His very own words show the absurdity of his reasoning:
"... issues such as Jerusalem, borders, and resources can be fruitfully discussed after a Palestinian defeat. The two-state solution, an absurdity at present (it means asking Israel to strengthen its mortal enemy) will make good sense after a Palestinian defeat." (end of quote). Why would you sit down with them to grant them what they lost in their defeat? Dr. Pipes is even ready to discuss Jerusalem with them after their defeat, as per his own words.

A Palestinian total defeat means the Palestininan concept is gone. It means Jerusalem is out of reach to them. A Palestinian total defeat means the Palestinians come to realize that their dreams about "Palestine" inside Israeli lands are completely gone. It means arabs must realize that the state now called Jordan is their dreamed "Palestine". With its government currently usurped by a Saudi patsy of the Hashemite family, Jordan IS Palestine. That's the end of the wars with the Palestinians. The next war, as in 1948 or 1967, can be between the enemy countries of Israel and Jordan/Palestine (whatever they wish to name it). As a full-fledged war, Israel can beat the crap out of Jordan once again, instead of fighting terrorists, rogue organizations, tunnel-diggers and criminals who hide among women, children, hospitals and schools to fight their assymetric wars.

The larger problem is the fact that Jewish scholars of the stature of Dr. Pipes cannot discard the Two-State Solution. Even in defeat, Dr. Pipes is ready to acknowledge that once they become victorious, Israelis should sit down with its arch-enemy and divide their terrirtory with them. That's a flawed argument if I ever saw one.
